The ‘God of War‘ franchise is undoubtedly one of the most popular in gaming history.
While it is exclusive to Playstation, quite a few gamers will tell you that they purchased Sony’s console purely to be able to play the franchise.
Covering topics such as Greek and Norse mythology (the new release will use Norse mythology as its base), and providing immense gameplay, there is very little you can fault when it comes to ‘God of War’.
Well, one small thing that you could possibly fault is the lack of a movie based on the game.
The main character, Kratos, is a deep character who gamers have come to love over the years, so a movie would make sense.
Yes, we have seen some terrible adaptations of games on the big screen, but if they can cast Kratos correctly, a winner could be on the cards.
But who would play Kratos? We have three suggestions:
Dwayne Johnson
Before you pick up your laptop or mobile phone and look to throw it out the window at the suggestion of Johnson, hear me out. Johnson has come on massively as an actor, despite still taking on some pretty poor roles (See Baywatch and Jumanji). He also looks a lot like Kratos, despite having a slightly darker complexion. Add a beard (depending on which era of Kratos they will use) to the muscles of Johnson and we could be on to a winning formula. Again, watch the series ‘Ballers’ if you still think that Johnson can’t act.
Tom Hardy
Get Tom Hardy to beef up like he did for Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, get him to grow his beard out (again, depending on which era of Kratos they will use) and have a clean shave of his pip, and you have a very capable actor who would make a fine Kratos. While appearance-wise it would work, in Hardy you already have a very fine actor who is impressive at taking on characters known to the world – see Bane and Max Rockatansky from ‘Mad Max’.
Jason Momoa
To leave Jason Momoa out of this list would be criminal. The Hawaii-born actor is blowing up in Hollywood, with his role in ‘Justice League’ likely to propel him to the next level of stardom. He has pretty much everything you need to recreate Kratos on the big screen – but he would have to cut off his locks. Like Johnson, his complexion is darker than that of Kratos, but I don’t think that would make a massive difference.
